Temba Bavuma was born on May 17, 1990, in Cape Town, South Africa. He made his first-class debut for Gauteng in the 2008-2009 season. Bavuma made his debut for the South African national cricket team in a T20 International against the West Indies on January 11, 2014. He made his One Day International (ODI) debut on July 19, 2015, against Bangladesh. Bavuma is perhaps best known for his performances in Test cricket. He made his Test debut against the West Indies on December 26, 2014. In January 2016, he became the first black African cricketer to score a Test century for South Africa when he scored 102 against England. His compact technique and ability to play under pressure earned him a reputation as a dependable middle-order batsman. Temba Bavuma has also led the South African cricket team on occasion. He has captained the team in limited-overs formats, and in 2020, he was named the captain of the South African Test team, becoming the first black African to hold the position. Bavuma has represented teams like the Highveld Lions and Cape Cobras in domestic cricket in South Africa. He has been a consistent performer in first-class and List A cricket. Bavuma had been named as the captain of the South African national cricket team for limited-overs formats (ODIs and T20Is). He was appointed as the captain in early 2020. Over the years, Temba Bavuma established himself as a reliable middle-order batsman in the South African national team, playing in all three formats of the game (Test, ODI, and T20).
